The Citizens' Police Academy is designed for adult community members who either reside in the City of Kyle or own a business within the city. The academy lasts for 10 weeks and includes a graduation ceremony. Classes are held one night per week, along with one Saturday session.
This hands-on course provides residents with an opportunity to learn about the operations of the Kyle Police Department. Attendees will have the chance to ride along with a police officer once they reach a specified level of training. Upon completing the course, graduates can join the Citizens' Police Academy Alumni Association, which aims to foster a close working relationship with the police department and future CPA classes.
Core classes include: Records, Emergency Communications, Patrol Operations and Standards, Mock Traffic Stops, Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Investigation, Defense Training, Animal Control, Victim Services, Citizen Response to Active Shooter Events (C.R.A.S.E), and Gun Range Training.
Classes will be held at the Public Safety Center located at 1700 Kohlers Crossing, Kyle.
